Embedded Software Engineer (YOCTO)

Onsite Position Overview

MEC is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer with expertise in embedded Linux, BSP development, Yocto, video systems, and embedded platform development. This individual will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of high-performance embedded software for complex, real-time systems and custom Linux-based platforms.

Embedded Software Development

• Develop production-quality embedded software in C/C++
• Design, customize, and maintain Yocto-based Linux distributions for embedded platforms
• Develop and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) for custom hardware platforms
• Integrate device drivers, middleware, and application software within Yocto build environments
• Bring up new hardware platforms and support hardware/software integration activities
• Implement and optimize system features and performance
• Collaborate across hardware, systems, quality, and regulatory teams
• Create design documentation, traceability, and lifecycle artifacts

Qualifications

• 7+ years of embedded software development (C/C++)
• Strong experience with real-time, resource-constrained systems
• Experience with embedded Linux, RTOS, BSP development, and hardware/software integration
• Experience building, customizing, and maintaining Yocto Project distributions and Board Support Packages (BSPs)
• Experience with Linux kernel configuration, device tree development, boot loaders, and driver integration
• Experience with video pipelines, graphics stacks, and display technologies
• Experience developing software in regulated or high-reliability environments
• Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and system optimization skills

Preferred

• Strong experience with Yocto Project, BitBake, BSP development, and Linux system customization
• Experience with Linux kernel development, device drivers, U-Boot, and board bring-up activities
• Experience with FPGA, DSP, or heterogeneous compute platforms
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and secure development practices
• Experience working within quality systems (IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971)
