Embedded Software Engineer Intern, Implant Embedded Systems

About the role

The Brain Interfaces Embedded Systems Team, a division of the Brain Interfaces Hardware Department, develops high-performance, safety-critical embedded systems for the next-generation of brain-computer interfaces. This internship offers hands-on training, collaboration with experts, and the opportunity to contribute to real-world projects.

Job Description and Responsibilities

• Build on cross-functional skills, working with engineers who develop safety-critical systems
• Gain experience in delivering products and core features from planning to execution and testing
• Grow fundamental understanding of hardware while contributing to bare-metal firmware in C
• Contribute to codebase organization and prioritize modular formats for hardware bifurcation
• Develop system improvements that reduce latency, enhance battery life, reliability, and safety

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with embedded systems
• Proficient in C/C++ and Python
• Knowledge of MCU architectures, peripherals, and development environments
• Comfortable reading electrical schematics and datasheets
• Strong understanding of embedded toolchains and workflow
• Deep knowledge of EE & DSP fundamentals
• Experience with hardware/software debugging using lab equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with embedded stacks for ARM cores
• Experience with safety-critical systems
• Experience with FPGA development and testing
• Experience with RF, BLE, and TCP/IP stacks
• Experience with applied cryptography and embedded systems security
