Job Description
The Software Engineer III (Embedded) develops innovative unmanned and robotic systems for defense and commercial applications. Responsibilities include designing, coding, testing, and debugging system software, as well as analyzing and enhancing software efficiency, stability, and scalability.
Position Responsibilities
- Writes and tests software for deployment on embedded devices and systems like aircraft and payloads.
- Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established tools and practices.
- Aids in writing system requirements, test plans, diagnostic tools, and validation testing of software.
- Assists with hardware selection and recommends processing, memory, and storage needs of systems.
- Supports flight test operations and transitions development software to production environments.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary development teams and conducts proof of concept demonstrations.
- Works on complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of variable factors and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques.
- Provides development updates and estimates milestone dates to track progress and meet project requirements.
- Troubleshoots complex systems with hardware diagnostics and supports design reviews.
Basic Qualifications
- A BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 - 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experienced trouble-shooting complex systems, proficient in Python, C, C++11, C++ STL, OpenCL.
- Skilled in Visual Studio, Eclipse, and defect tracking tools.
- Knowledgeable in common protocols such as RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, USB.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Advanced Qualifications & Desired Competencies
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience with STM32 family of processors and RTOS systems (such as µC/OS, freeRTOS).
- Experience with Video 4 Linux, Ubuntu Linux Kernels, and Robot Operating System (ROS).
- Experience with Ardupilot or PX4 open source autopilots.
- Hands-on design/build experience with UAVs, R/C aircraft, or other lightweight miniature robotic systems.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal communication.
- Initiative and drive to achieve goals within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
