About the role
The Embedded Software Engineer - Camera Systems collaborates with our software and hardware teams to develop new products and enhance our existing ones. This role will tackle challenging image-processing problems, contribute innovative solutions, and prioritize team success to achieve collective goals. Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team, including hardware engineers, to ensure seamless integration of systems. Work on embedded video processors used in security and surveillance products (autonomous, airborne, ground, and other applications).
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain firmware and existing Linux C/C++ software for camera and motor control systems.
- Interface with complex systems, including MIPI channels for high-speed data transfer and hardware diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes to troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues.
- Directly support customers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, or other relevant fields.
- A combination of relevant work experience and education is acceptable.
- Knowledgeable in computer vision interface standards including MIPI, Camera Link, HDMI, SDI, Parallel Video, LVDS, UVC, and USB3Vision.
- Strong understanding of how camera systems work from lenses to image sensors, motors, real-time processing, drivers, camera tuning, and tradeoffs (light, sharpness, noise, etc.).
- Familiar with Linux build systems, creating and installing drivers, and device driver debugging.
- Senior software level: 5-10+ years of C/C++ embedded software development experience.
- Knowledgeable with Linux filesystems, GPOI, SPI, UART, etc.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Physical Demands
- This role requires standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods; communicating in person and by phone; using hands to operate objects or controls; and reaching with hands and arms.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
- Close and distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and focus adjustment are also needed.
