About the role

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Wireless Firmware Engineer to support the design and development of next-generation connected devices and IoT solutions. This role requires expertise in embedded firmware development, wireless communications, real-time operating systems, and secure connected products. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing firmware for low-power wireless devices and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver reliable, production-ready solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for wireless connected products
  • Implement and optimize bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware architectures
  • Develop low-power embedded solutions for battery-operated devices
  • Design and support bootloaders and firmware update systems
  • Develop over-the-air (OTA) firmware update capabilities
  • Debug firmware and hardware issues using industry-standard tools
  • Collaborate with hardware, RF, systems, and test engineers
  • Document software architecture, design decisions, and development processes
  • Support product testing, validation, certification, and release activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred

Skills

Embedded Firmware Development

  • Strong programming experience in Embedded C
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers
  • Expertise with bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware development
  • Experience with interrupt-driven architectures
  • Strong understanding of:
    • DMA
    • Timers
    • Watchdogs
    • GPIO
    • UARTs
    • SPI
    • I2C
  • Experience developing bootloaders and firmware update mechanisms
  • Experience using J-Link, SWD, GDB, or similar debugging tools
  • Knowledge of low-power firmware design techniques

Wireless Communications

  • Experience developing wireless embedded products
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Z-Wave
    • Proprietary sub-GHz wireless protocols
    • Mesh networking
    • Low-power wireless sensor networks
  • Understanding of RF coexistence concepts
  • Experience implementing OTA updates over wireless networks

Security

  • Secure boot
  • Firmware signing
  • Key provisioning
  • Encrypted OTA updates
  • Secure pairing and authentication
  • Replay protection
  • Secure credential storage

Preferred Qualifications

Wireless Platform Experience

  • Experience with:
    • Silicon Labs EFR32 devices
    • Simplicity Studio
    • Silicon Labs Gecko SDK
    • Silicon Labs wireless stack APIs
    • Z-Wave 700/800 Series
    • SmartStart
    • S2 Security
    • OTA DFU mechanisms
  • Wireless packet analysis and tracing tools

RF Engineering Knowledge

  • Preferred experience with:
    • Antenna and PCB layout awareness
    • RF sensitivity optimization
    • Link-budget analysis
    • Sub-GHz propagation behavior
    • EMC/EMI troubleshooting
    • FCC/CE certification support
    • Spectrum analyzers and VNAs

Software Engineering Practices

  • Modular firmware architectures

Ideal Background

  • Candidates with experience developing wireless products for smart home, building automation, industrial, infrastructure, HVAC, or IoT environments will be highly regarded
  • Experience bringing connected products from concept through production is strongly preferred
