About the role

As an Embedded Flight Software Engineer at ULA, you will act as a hands-on developer delivering operational and enabling capabilities designed to meet real-time requirements for an embedded flight control system. You will work within a highly collaborative, agile team to design, develop, and document software products, resolve complex technical problems, and implement innovative solutions across the full software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and document software products for embedded flight control systems.
  • Develop software using modern principles, including refining requirements, designing subsystems, implementing code modules, and building integration, component, and unit tests.
  • Work in an agile environment, adhering to lean-agile development and shared design philosophies.
  • Engage with Product Owners, Architects, QA, and automation teams on cross-functional activities to design, develop, and test cutting-edge software solutions.
  • Ensure software engineering best practices are applied to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers to enhance their knowledge and efficiency.
  • Lead the design and implementation of major software subsystems, driving architectural discussions and making critical technical decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Use appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development lifecycle to support Flight Software development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with C and C++ programming, with exposure to embedded programming and/or robotics.
  • Experience with Object-Oriented Design.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Understanding of Software Configuration Management practices and tools such as Git.
  • Embraces the use of AI-assisted tooling in all aspects of development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent ability to communicate technical content to collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python, Perl, JavaScript, and other scripting languages.
  • Experience with modern software development practices such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), Agile Methodologies, and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Familiarity with embedded applications (aerospace, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, robotics).
  • Experience with hardware/microprocessor/software integration.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (Ethernet, RS-422, MIL-STD-1553).
  • Familiarity with UML.
  • Familiarity with cloud technology (e.g., AWS).
  • Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • Experience with rocketry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

Salary range for this position in Denver: $107,865 – $179,775. Salaries are based on candidate experience, qualifications, internal equity, market, and business considerations. Eligible employees may receive a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
