About the Role

Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, Assistant Site Coordinator, or Senior Child Care Leader, the ELOP Leader assists with the operation of The Learning Connection (TLC) Before and After School Child Care Program. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and conducting child care programs and activities; supervising operations; directing Student Child Care Leaders; and supervising school-age children in both long- and short-range activities aligned with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practices, and program philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation of a child care program.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct specific child care programs and activities.
  • Provide supervision of program operations and direct Student Child Care Leaders.
  • Direct and supervise school-age children in activities according to curriculum objectives and program philosophy.
  • Maintain knowledge of Child Care Services policies, procedures, and programming.
  • Apply training and staff motivation techniques.
  • Manage student behavior using appropriate strategies and techniques.
  • Perform routine record-keeping tasks.

Requirements

  • One year of work experience preferred, preferably in child care, day camp, or related fields.
  • Proof of one of the following:
    • Passing the CBEST, or
    • Completion of two years of college (48 units), or
    • An AA degree or higher, or
    • Passing the District proficiency exam in mathematics, reading, and writing prior to the job posting closing date.
  • 6 Early Childhood Education units from an accredited college, or a Child Development permit (preferred).
  • Possession of current First Aid and CPR cards (preferred).
  • Transcripts or diploma must be attached to the application if using education to meet requirements.

Skills

  • Knowledge of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics.
  • Basic math, reading, and composition skills.
  • Correct oral and written usage of English.
  • Familiarity with rules of various sports and games.

Pay

Pay range: $20.07 - $25.59 per hour. External candidates start at Steps A-C based on verified previous experience. Current, regular employees are placed at the lowest step of the new range, providing a raise of approximately 5%, within the constraints of the salary schedule.
