About the role
The Early Language and Literacy Initiative (ELLI®) offers various positions at multiple locations, including Stepping Stones Museum for Children, Norwalk Public Schools, and Fairfield University. We believe in providing support, respect, and growth opportunities for our educators, who work collaboratively to help children thrive.
Responsibilities
- Lead a toddler classroom by creating engaging, play-based learning experiences that support language, literacy, social-emotional development, and early STEAM learning.
- Build warm, responsive relationships with children and families.
- Supervise and support classroom team members while modeling positive teaching practices.
- Partner with families through daily communication, conferences, workshops, and family events.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Observe and document children's growth and development.
- Collaborate with teaching team members to implement ELLI's curriculum and approach.
- Support classroom routines including meals, diapering, toileting, transitions, and outdoor play.
- Ensure compliance with NAEYC standards and Connecticut licensing regulations.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field with at least 12 credits in Child Development or Early Childhood Education identified by OEC
- One (1) year of professional childcare or classroom experience
- Experience leading or mentoring classroom staff
- Knowledge of Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS)
- Experience working with toddlers in a group setting
- Strong communication and family engagement skills
- Bilingual Spanish/English
