Position Summary and Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional programs through telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools.
  • Consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure successful completion of instructional program.
  • Organize, administer, and score the annual WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS assessments.
  • Attend and participate in state testing and professional development trainings.
  • Support the instructional program with synchronous lessons, groupings, and push-ins.
  • Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers on a regular basis.
  • Develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback, and coach special projects.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to create and maintain the school’s English Learner Advisory Committee.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students are progressing through the program.
  • Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects.
  • Keep student records and data up-to-date.
  • Consult with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs.
  • Coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students.
  • Devise and implement virtual methods to create and maintain a “school community.”
  • Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts.
  • Work with the school counselor to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications, making adequate progress, and meeting established goals.
  • Participate in professional development sessions and associated activities.

Requirements

  • Virginia residency preferred.
  • Highly qualified and certified to teach ESL/TESOL in Virginia.
  • Experience directly teaching ELL students.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Highly organized and punctual.
  • Customer-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player track record.
  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.
