Position Summary and Responsibilities
- Manage instructional programs through telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools.
- Consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure successful completion of instructional program.
- Organize, administer, and score the annual WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS assessments.
- Attend and participate in state testing and professional development trainings.
- Support the instructional program with synchronous lessons, groupings, and push-ins.
- Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers on a regular basis.
- Develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback, and coach special projects.
- Collaborate with school leadership to create and maintain the school’s English Learner Advisory Committee.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students are progressing through the program.
- Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects.
- Keep student records and data up-to-date.
- Consult with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs.
- Coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students.
- Devise and implement virtual methods to create and maintain a “school community.”
- Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts.
- Work with the school counselor to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications, making adequate progress, and meeting established goals.
- Participate in professional development sessions and associated activities.
Requirements
- Virginia residency preferred.
- Highly qualified and certified to teach ESL/TESOL in Virginia.
- Experience directly teaching ELL students.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite).
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Highly organized and punctual.
- Customer-focused approach.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player track record.
- Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families.
- Ability to work remotely.
- Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.
