About the role
The ELL Teacher plans, prepares, and delivers lessons for assigned classes in collaboration with co-teaching partners. They also design lessons with an appropriate level of difficulty, providing a blend of language and content in a logical and sequential manner.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons for assigned classes in collaboration with co-teaching partners
- Co-design lessons with an appropriate level of difficulty that provide a blend of language and content in a logical and sequential manner
- Maintain professional relationships and collaboration efforts with co-teaching partner(s)
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
- Identify pupil needs and provide instruction appropriate to those needs in collaboration with classroom teacher(s)
- Analyze and interpret student data to develop and modify instructional activities in collaboration with classroom teacher(s)
- Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and English Learner Plans (ELPs)
- Implement the Idaho Core Standards and WIDA standards as well as the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives, in lesson plans, classroom instruction, unit planning, and assessments in collaboration with co-teaching partner(s)
- Devise written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking as well as the reproduction of facts, and use them to evaluate student progress on a regular basis in collaboration with co-teaching partner(s)
- Prepare students academically for district, state, and federal testing
- Budget class time effectively through co-planning and co-delivery of lessons
- Encourage students to strive to meet their highest potential
- Establish and communicate classroom rules and encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Attend and participate in district and faculty meetings
- Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with special education teachers as needed
- Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise, this includes Federal Programs Administrator and district level EL coach/coordinator
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, curriculum, objectives, and methods
- Provide needed and requested information on a timely basis
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
- Input data in a timely fashion
- Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
- Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education
- Seek assistance should emergencies arise
- Represent the school district in a positive manner
- Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
- In collaboration with the ELL Coordinator, oversee all required ELL state and/or federal testing
- Monitor state and federal communications regarding ELL programs and requirements, and ensures that all stakeholder groups are informed
- Ensure building level program delivery and quality by monitoring student outcomes, monitoring building level compliance with state and federal policy regarding ELL programs and services, and monitoring the implementation at the building level
- Cover the identification, assessment, and placement of limited English proficiency students
- At the direction of the Federal Program’s Administrator and district level EL coach/coordinator complete all state, federal and district reports relating to students identified as ELL
- Develop and ensure implementation of K-5 ELL services to qualified children
- Manage translation and interpreting services for non-English speaking students and families, except as related to Special Education
- Keep current in best practice research through targeted professional reading, membership in professional organizations, and through taking advantage of training opportunities as budget allows, for the purpose of gathering and conveying this information
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Idaho Teacher Certification in Elementary Education with an endorsement in required ENL/Bilingual Education Endorsement
- Highly Qualified Teacher per the standard set forth by the Nampa School District
- Bachelor degree required
- Successful teaching experience, including successful teaching of students with limited English proficiency
