This is a temporary employment opportunity supporting the State of Indiana, Disaster Relief Fund program. The position will assist with reviewing applications for those impacted by the August 2026 weather event, offering an exceptional opportunity to join an expert team and make a lasting difference.

About the role

The Eligibility Specialist is responsible for reviewing affected applicants’ applications and determining eligibility. This may include evaluating previously denied applications for potential appeals. The role may also serve as a point of contact between the program and the applicant, providing exceptional customer service while assisting clients in coordinating necessary services and resources to address their recovery needs.

Eligibility Specialists must meet assigned goals and objectives, comply with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, and adhere to contractual or stakeholder expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide eligibility and case management services as part of a team.
  • Contact survivors and gather documents to establish program eligibility.
  • Maintain a high ethical standard to protect client information.
  • Attend meetings and training provided by Eligibility Supervisors/Leads, both internal and external.
  • Work collaboratively with Eligibility Supervisor and Program Management to meet program goals and performance targets.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic and adherence to professional ethics in client care, with awareness of disaster impacts on communities, families, and individuals.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of all applicable Program policies and requirements.
  • Complete required training and follow all health and safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated case management and/or loan processing expertise.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and ability to learn new software systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify key steps to complete client outcomes.
  • Strong applicant relations and understanding of local, state, and federal government structure.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with FEMA Individual Assistance program(s) preferred.
  • Experience working with grant programs.
  • Experience in case work or social services.

Work Environment

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing work activities.
  • Remote work requires reliable high-speed internet and a quiet workspace to engage with survivors.
