Duties
- Teaches all core academic content areas as well as social development utilizing best practices in ordinance with the curriculum frameworks.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, discovery learning incorporating release of responsibility.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, maintains accurate and appropriate records, and prepares report cards and assessment reports.
- Communicates with parents through various means to discuss classroom happenings and academic planning and events.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, social, and learning problems.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and learning locations throughout the classroom.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with assigned administration to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with bargaining agreement.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.

To establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents/guardians and other staff members.
Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field. Requires a valid teaching certificate in Elementary Education. Requires 2 years of successful teaching experience in an elementary school setting. Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the ability to work effectively with children and adults. Requires the ability to maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.
