About the role

Elementary School Teacher (6th Grade) – Temporary position at Oceano Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year.

Responsibilities

• Teach multiple subjects, design curriculum, and incorporate critical learning procedures.
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state laws, regulations, and District policies.
• Develop clear, appropriate lesson plans and identify instructional materials.
• Select, design, and organize objectives, strategies, and materials for teaching multiple subjects; incorporate research findings into the instructional program.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Teach at various levels of elementary instruction and determine the appropriate pace for instruction based on students' abilities.
• Explain material and subject content to students and parents.
• Differentiate instruction for students based on need and work with students and other teachers in inclusive settings.
• Establish and maintain standards of behavior in the classroom and throughout the school to achieve a positive and functional learning atmosphere.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare student progress reports, and provide accurate and constructive feedback.
• Use data to improve the learning and instruction process.
• Create and maintain an environment fostering student creativity, critical thinking, academic achievement, and lifelong skills.
• Demonstrate competence and confidence in working with new technology and various application packages.
• Maximize opportunities for student success by creating positive mentoring relationships with students and colleagues.
• Create a classroom environment reflective of 21st-century skills and individual student needs.
• Serve as a role model for students regarding lifelong learning and professional behavior.
• Establish and implement a classroom discipline policy to maintain an effective learning environment.
• Provide additional instruction as needed to support students in academic skill development.
• Maintain positive staff relations and work closely with the site principal through shared decision-making processes.
• Cooperate with other professional staff to identify student needs and develop assessments to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Participate in faculty committees, meetings, and programs supporting the educational program.
• Demonstrate regular and timely attendance.
• Promote a positive image of public education and engage with community and business partners for curriculum development and student projects.
• Attend and participate in required in-service activities.
• Meet deadlines, maintain appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and follow district promotion policy.
• Follow District and school policies.

Requirements

• Valid California Multiple Subject teaching credential with an authorization to teach in grades K-6 in a self-contained setting.
• CLAD/BCLAD/EL Authorization (Emergency permits are not accepted).
• A Bachelor's Degree, including all courses and/or exams needed to meet credentialing and subject matter competency.
• Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods.
• Ability to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
• Ability to speak English clearly so others may understand at normal levels.
• Ability to stoop, twist, bend, grasp, reach overhead, push, pull, and move, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds to waist height.
• Ability to move throughout the building and school grounds as necessary.
• Ability to concentrate on a single task for up to three hours at a time.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to technology, machinery, instructions, and task methods.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work assignment schedules.
• Ability to speak and write in a clear, concise manner.
• Comfortable interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes for daily interaction with staff, students, parents, and community members.
• Understanding, patient attitude toward students, parents, staff, and community members.
• Maintain the privacy of confidential information, including student grades and progress.

Qualifications

• Resourceful, innovative, helpful, diligent, persistent, and willing to work with colleagues and students.
• Prior teaching experience (preferred).
• Valid California Driver's License (preferred).

Pay

Annual entry-level salary placement from $63,607 to $107,276 for a full-time position. Salary is prorated based on start date, FTE, prior experience, and semester units above a Bachelor's degree. Placement on the District Certificated Salary Schedule is based on years of full-time credentialed teaching experience and units of college coursework beyond a Bachelor's Degree.
