Elementary Teacher
About the Role
Uplift Michigan Online School must provide an excellent education to all students consistent with the mission, vision, and goals of the Academy and with the core values of Summit Management Consulting. Your primary goal is to ensure that each student learns the subject matter identified in the State standards and the Uplift Michigan Online School curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Consistently plan and deliver lessons that are varied, interesting, engaging, and enjoyable for students.
- Facilitate learning by creating lesson plans in harmony with students' learning styles.
- Assign homework only in accordance with Uplift’s homework philosophy and in alignment with Professional Learning Community (PLC) team guidelines.
- Offer assignments and assessments in accordance with four-period learning, providing frequent and timely feedback to students.
- Consistently review and analyze student performance data to develop plans to meet the needs of all students (refer to the 4 essential PLC questions on the intranet).
- Maintain timely, complete, and accurate student records (e.g., Skyward).
- Assist in the development of curriculum aligned to State standards, referring to these approved guidelines as necessary for daily teaching plans.
- Assist in the development and implementation of educational plans such as IEPs, 504 plans, and behavior plans.
- Ensure the classroom is conducive to learning—safe and nurturing for all students—providing consistency and balance.
- Frequently advise parents about their child’s performance and progress through various communication methods (e.g., voice mail, email, Skyward, face-to-face conferences, written correspondence).
- Return parent emails and voice mail messages within 24 hours.
- Provide parents with encouraging news as well as items of concern to prevent surprises in progress reports and report card results.
- Conduct research, attend conferences, meetings, and pursue continuing education to model lifelong learning and ensure effective instruction.
- Teach and model elements of Uplift Michigan Online School’s approved character education program (7 Habits).
- Ensure students develop a healthy self-respect and respect for others, using teachable moments to reinforce desirable character traits.
- Ensure students follow Uplift’s rules and policies, using a balance of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support along with disciplinary procedures.
- Perform other duties and tasks as directed by School Administration.
General Expectations
- Directly accountable to the Administrator; expected to communicate and coordinate with school office personnel and collaborate with fellow teachers.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner, demonstrating competence in your responsibilities and extending respect and courtesy to coworkers.
- Adhere to all Uplift’s employee policies and expectations as outlined in the handbooks located on the intranet.
- Maintain an exceptional attendance routine, including arriving early and staying after to plan or support students.
- Conduct yourself in accordance with the mission, vision, and goals of Uplift Michigan Online School, as well as the core values of Summit Management.
Evaluation
All employees are evaluated based on the performance of their primary responsibilities and adherence to general expectations. Employees can expect frequent observations and immediate feedback throughout the school year, culminating in a year-end evaluation.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Michigan Teaching Certification in the assigned area.
- Pre-service experience, as required for certification.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
