About the role

The 2nd Grade Teacher at St. Barbara School (Pax Christi Academies) plays a crucial role in educating students in a Christ-centered, academically rigorous environment. This position requires a strong commitment to Catholic values and the mission of Catholic education.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with diocesan and state curriculum requirements.
  • Create a positive, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, respect, and academic success.
  • Teach core elementary subjects, including Religion, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of students.
  • Achieve student learning through a variety of formal and informal assessments, monitor progress, and provide timely feedback to students and families.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Establish and reinforce classroom expectations that promote positive behavior, responsibility, and respect.
  • Collaborate with instructional assistants, specialists, administrators, and colleagues to support student achievement.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events.
  • Incorporate technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
  • Supervise students during recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, field trips, liturgies, assemblies, and other assigned duties.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, faith formation, and school events.
  • Support the mission and ministry of the school through active participation in the faith life of the community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.
  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred; must support and uphold the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Previous elementary teaching experience, particularly in primary grades.
  • Strong understanding of elementary instructional practices and child development.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse learners.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and educational technology platforms.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and families.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and continuous improvement.

Work Conditions

  • Work primarily in a classroom and school campus setting, requiring frequent use of standard educational technology, and office equipment such as computers, telephones, projectors and printers.
  • Regular interaction with students, staff, faculty, and visitors in a professional and faith-based environment.
  • Follow a structured school schedule but often work additional hours to meet before or after school responsibilities for preparation, grading assignments, assigned tasks, attending school activities or events.
  • Occasional local travel may be required for training, meetings, retreats, or field trips.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time with frequent walking and movement around the classroom, campus or office facilities to support programs and operational needs.
  • Speak clearly and project your voice to communicate with the classroom as a group, individual students, parents, colleagues, and fellow staff members.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment, preparing materials, and managing paperwork.
  • Visual and auditory ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and visitors in person, via email, and by phone.
  • Maintain visual and auditory awareness to monitor student activities, read materials, and respond to classroom situations.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds, such as materials, supplies, and event equipment.
