Elementary Teacher

173 days per year (prorated based on start date), Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM.

About the Role

Teachers plan and deliver content aligned to Elementary Teacher Standards using best practices to provide differentiated and rigorous instruction for all students. They evaluate student needs and abilities, determine effective instructional methods, and ensure continuous improvement in essential learning skills. Teachers create an educational atmosphere where students can fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth.

Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation

• Demonstrates prerequisite knowledge and content pedagogy.
• Understands students’ developmental learning, skills, abilities, special needs, and cultural heritage.
• Sets instructional outcomes aligned to Minnesota State Standards with rigorous learning targets.
• Designs coherent instruction for rigor, differentiation, interdisciplinary, and extended learning opportunities.
• Assists with ongoing curriculum review under administrative guidance.

Classroom Environment

• Fosters teacher-student and student-student relationships reflecting respect, rapport, warmth, and cultural awareness.
• Establishes a culture of learning with enthusiasm for content, outcomes, and activities.
• Conveys high expectations for student work and pride in quality.
• Manages classroom procedures, routines, and transitions to maximize instructional time.
• Ensures clear, consistently monitored, and respectfully enforced behavior standards.
• Creates a safe learning environment encouraging intellectual risk-taking.
• Organizes physical space for safety, accessibility, and effective use of resources.

Instruction

• Communicates clear purpose, directions, and explanations connected to students’ knowledge and experience.
• Engages students with appropriate activities, assignments, groupings, and materials.
• Delivers instruction with defined structure and appropriate pacing.
• Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness to student learning needs, using varied strategies to support struggling learners.
