About the role
A classroom teacher at Bethesda Christian School (BCS) provides students with a well-rounded education while integrating Christian principles and values into the curriculum. The teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and supportive learning environment that fosters spiritual growth, academic excellence, and character development.
Responsibilities
- Instruction
- Design and implement engaging and rigorous lesson plans aligned with BCS’s curriculum and academic standards.
- Incorporate biblical teachings and Christian worldview into lesson plans across various subjects.
- Conduct engaging and interactive classroom sessions that encourage student participation and critical thinking.
- Deliver lessons using a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and resources.
- Encourage students to apply Christian values in their academic work, interactions, and personal lives.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Spiritual Formation
- Encourage students to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and live out Christian values in their daily lives.
- Lead devotional or prayer time to foster students’ spiritual growth.
- Facilitate discussions and reflection on biblical teachings and their practical applications.
- Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including tests, projects, presentations, and class discussions.
- Provide timely feedback and constructive guidance to students, helping them identify areas of strength and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school administrators to support student progress and address individual needs.
- Classroom Management
- Establish a positive and respectful classroom culture that fosters a sense of belonging and community and maximizes instructional time.
- Set clear expectations for behavior, discipline, and academic integrity, promoting Christian values and character development.
- Address student conflicts or behavioral issues in a compassionate and fair manner, seeking opportunities for resolution and growth.
- Collaboration and Professional Development
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to align curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and communications with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay updated with best practices in Christian education.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Comply with school policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant subject area (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification or license.
- Strong knowledge of Christian teachings, values, and biblical principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal spiritual growth and a vibrant Christian faith.
- Experience in teaching middle/high school students or working in a Christian school environment (preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to integrate faith and learning effectively in the classroom.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for adolescents and their holistic development.
