About the role

The Licensed Teacher under the direction of the Building Principal plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. The role involves creating an environment that supports the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment for all students.
  • Plans and develops instructional plans, lessons, experiments, and other support activities to present approved district curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by DDOE and policies, Federal Regulations, and School Board Policy.
  • Analyzes and uses student performance data to inform instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport and communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Establishes classroom routines and procedures and implements effective classroom management.
  • Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
  • Works closely with guidance/special education personnel/outside resources to assist students with special needs.
  • Integrates technology appropriately to enhance student learning and instructional delivery.
  • Remains current and knowledgeable about evidence-based practices related to teaching and learning through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
  • Participates in district and school level committees designed to foster continuing improvement and growth.
  • Communicates curriculum and student-related information effectively in oral and written form.
  • Participates in all meetings (IEP, conferences, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Establishes and maintains effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Transcripts to be reviewed/evaluated prior to submission of job application.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly talks, expresses or exchanges ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Frequently sits and/or remains in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Erects up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Training

The Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • Criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License).
  • Documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A.
  • Completion of I-9 form.
  • Completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
