Leadership Principal Duties
- Provides leadership and supervises the Elementary Special Education staff including Teachers, Paraeducators, and related service personnel.
- Manages the implementation of Special Education services in accordance with the law and current New Hampshire rules.
- Supports staff, administration, students, and parents as the leader with expertise in providing quality educational support for students with special needs.
- Affords assistance to the Special Education Director in developing the district's special education budget when it comes to needs at the elementary level.
- Participates in District Special Education Leadership meetings.
- Serves as the School District representative at building student services team meetings (for new referrals, student monitoring, re-evaluation discussions, etc.).
- Provides leadership and expertise in facilitating positive instructional outcomes for students.
- Serves as liaison/LEA representative with outside agencies.
- Affords assistance in facilitating student transitions.
- Collaborates with the Special Education Director in the development and implementation of extended school year programs.
- Supervises special education teachers, specialists, and instructional assistants in cooperation with building administration.
- Evaluates special education teachers, specialists, and instructional assistants in consultation with appropriate building/district staff.
- Oversees distribution of special education caseloads and deployment of support staff in conjunction with building administration.
- Participates in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of new special education staff.
- Maintains oversight of the effectiveness of the building process from pre-referral to placement and service delivery.
- Supervises IEP teams to ensure each student is provided with the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
- Follows protocol for responding to new referrals and the development of evaluation questions.
- Supervises building compliance with NHSEIS, re-evaluation guidelines, and placement team meetings.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Special Education Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Special Education preferred.
- New Hampshire DOE certification in Special Education and Special Education Administration or Principal required.
- 5 years of supervisory and teaching experience in special education preferred.
- Knowledge of best practices for Elementary/Special Education.
