Elementary School Counselor Position Summary
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students' social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
- Conduct classroom guidance lessons aligned with school counseling standards and district goals.
- Affirm students in developing problem-solving, conflict-resolution, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills.
- Support students during crisis and provide appropriate referrals to outside agencies when needed.
- Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress to identify at-risk students and implement interventions.
Collaboration and Consultation
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff to address student concerns and improve student outcomes.
- Participate in intervention teams, IEP meetings, Section 504 meetings, MTSS/RTI processes, and other student support meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, needs, and available resources.
- Cookordinate with community organizations and mental health providers to support student services.
Program Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with ASCA standards and district expectations.
- Use data to assess program effectiveness and guide counseling services.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive school climate.
- Assist with character education, bullying prevention, attendance initiatives, and social-emotional learning programs.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain required certifications/licensure.
- Support school-wide initiatives and perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid state certification/licensure as a School Counselor.
- Knowledge of child development, counseling techniques, and school-based interventions.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an elementary school setting.
- Training in trauma-informed practices, behavior intervention, or social-emotional learning.
- Experience with MTSS/RTI frameworks and data-driven interventions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the school campus and interact with students and staff daily.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and electronically.
