Job Summary

The Elementary Principal (PreK-5) oversees the professional and non-professional staff at Mt. Blue Regional School District (RSU9) to ensure successful school operations and promote educational opportunities for students and staff.

Job Goal(s)

To provide organizational leadership that supports building and district instructional, communication, and behavioral goals, promoting the best possible educational opportunity for each student and staff member in RSU9.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Personnel Supervision:

    • Assists in developing a positive “can-do” culture focused on student and staff success and teamwork.
    • Evaluates staff for improvement of instruction and contract renewal.
    • Recommends to the Superintendent the assignment, promotion, retention, or dismissal of staff.
    • Provides orientation and support to new and beginning staff.
    • Aids in the recruitment and retention of highly skilled and successful staff members.
  • Curriculum/Instruction:

    • Assists in studying the instructional and curriculum needs of RSU9 and developing plans to meet and surpass potential student progress.
    • Supports educator creativity to differentiate individual student instructional needs.
    • Coordinates programs between grades and with other schools in the district and during student transitions.
  • Site Based Management:

    • Develops and maintains a climate of mutual respect and cooperation among students, staff, families, and administrators.
    • Plans and constructs a schedule for the effective daily operation of the school.
    • Supervises daily activities and school-sponsored functions.
    • Reports to District administration regarding the needs of the school for equipment and supplies.
    • Develops and administers the school's budgeted allocations.
  • Students:

    • Models the importance of and for student individuality in learning.
    • Assists staff in developing a safe and respectful school community.
    • Develops a process for positively recognizing student progress and accomplishments.
  • Parent and Community Involvement:

    • Keeps the public informed about the educational program.
    • Schedules conferences with teachers, parents, and students.
    • Supports families in becoming important members of the school community.
  • Other Administrative Responsibilities:

    • Implements Board policies and administrative rules and regulations.
    • Participates in and helps run Individualized Education Program Meetings (IEPs).
    • Attends Mt. Blue RSD Board of Directors meetings as assigned.
    • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

Terms of Employment

As determined by the Board of Directors.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
