Elementary Music Teacher

Position Purpose

Provide instruction for music students in band, choir, orchestra or composition. An assignment may include one or more buildings.

Responsibilities

• Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
• Mets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -- in harmony with the goals--establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Transports district materials to specific buildings.
• Arranges and sets up classrooms.
• Maintains inventory of instruments and equipment.
• Plans and directs performances.
• Clocks schedules with building staff.
• Travels between buildings.
• Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education
• ND Teaching License or ability to obtain prior to start date
• Two to three years teaching experience
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education with vocal emphasis
