About the Role

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform school-based duties associated with the daily operation of the Media Center/Mediaplex, as well as providing staff support in the training and use of the Media Center/Mediaplex.

Essential Functions

  • Assists students at circulation desk with checking library materials in and out via a computer automated system; catalogs new books, and other library equipment; and maintains good condition of the books, etc.
  • Offers related arts courses to support library experiences in the media center/media plex.
  • Inventories all Media Center/Mediaplex equipment; prepares inventory reports; catalog books and other library equipment ordered.
  • Builds positive relationships with students by assisting students with navigating the Media Center/Mediaplex with school related projects.
  • Performs customer service functions; provides assistance and information related to Media Center/Mediaplex policies and procedures; assists all students and teachers with their needs.
  • Leads or assists with events such as Book Fairs, Author Visits, and Reading Incentives.
  • Mediaplex Assistants support students and faculty in the use of technology.
  • Shelves books and other materials; keeps collection in proper order; stocks and restocks bookshelves.
  • Works diligently to ensure overdue books are returned by working with classroom teachers and when needed directly contacting parents/caregivers.
  • Ensuring Media Center/Mediaplex has a welcoming and visually pleasing environment, by keeping displays and information for students and staff updated.
  • Uses technology (Desktop/laptop/iPad) to email, enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes Google Suite and Microsoft.
  • Provides services to support instruction as needed, ie. Lamination, copying, and other departmental/school equipment.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Warren.
  • With the support of the District, attends training when assigned to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Willing to train a person who has a passion for supporting teachers and students in their learning experiences.
  • Able to meet the requirements of a paraprofessional as outlined in ESSA.
  • Pass the required Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check.
  • Must have at least an associates degree or two years of college or passed the ParaPro Assessment. The Highlander Park offers the ParaPro Assessment at no cost for all Warren Township prospective employees.
