Long-term substitute teachers are needed for K-5 elementary schools across Teton County School District for contracted periods throughout the 2026-2027 school year. This position is not eligible for insurance, retirement, or paid time off benefits.

About the Role

A team of four long-term substitutes will provide consistent weekly coverage across all elementary grade levels (K-5) in the following schools:

  • Colter Elementary
  • Wilson Elementary
  • Munger Mountain Elementary
  • Alta Elementary
  • Moran Elementary
  • Kelly Elementary

Substitutes will cover grade-level teacher teams in the morning for professional development and another team in the afternoon, rotating assignments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-written lesson plans and deliver whole-group and small-group instruction across K-5 subjects.
  • Maintain a safe, positive learning environment by managing student behavior in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and playgrounds.
  • Adapt to rotating assignments across schools and grade levels for morning, afternoon, and duty coverage.
  • Communicate with classroom teachers regarding student progress, learning tasks, and behavioral supports; address immediate parent inquiries when necessary.
  • Follow school emergency protocols, enforce rules, and report incidents, safety concerns, or policy violations to administration.

Requirements

  • Attend District Substitute Orientation/Training.
  • Complete online training tutorials and safety/security certifications (e.g., ALICE).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Reliability and good moral character; must pass a criminal background check.
  • Flexibility with schedule changes based on substitute needs.

Qualifications

  • Required: Wyoming Substitute Teacher Permit issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board or a standard Teaching License with a K-6 Elementary Endorsement.
  • Preferred: Experience with elementary-age students.

Schedule

Substitutes may choose one, two, or all three contract periods based on availability. Flexibility is required, as assignments may change due to staffing needs.

  • Contract Period One: September 15, 2026 – November 19, 2026 (33 days, $8,250 total).
  • Contract Period Two: January 5, 2027 – March 18, 2027 (33 days, $8,250 total).
  • Contract Period Three: April 6, 2027 – May 20, 2027 (22 days, $5,500 total).

Pay

Long-term substitutes are paid $250 per day.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently stand, talk, hear, and occasionally walk or sit on the floor (depending on student age).
  • Occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., boxes of books/equipment).
  • Bend, twist, lift arms (e.g., writing on boards), stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach up to 36 inches above the head.
  • Close vision required for reading materials; ability to adjust focus and exposure to screens.
  • Hearing ability to monitor student activity and respond to communication.
  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.

Work Environment

  • Noise levels range from low to moderate but may become loud in group settings.
  • Duties performed indoors and occasionally outdoors (e.g., playground duty, bus loading/unloading).
  • Exposure to unpredictable weather conditions; hazard-free, clean, and healthy environment.
  • Frequent movement between rooms and crowded hallways.
