As an Elementary Instructional Aide, you will assist in the general supervision and management of children, allowing teachers to focus more on the educational needs of students. You must be willing to fulfill responsibilities in alignment with the school's educational philosophy.
Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher.
- Plan and prepare the learning environment, set up interest centers, and prepare materials and supplies for daily student activities.
- Work individually or in small groups with students to reinforce classroom instruction, listen to reading groups, or assist with answering questions.
- Supervise outside playground activities.
- Assist with general housekeeping tasks.
- Support the teacher in any other appropriate ways and perform clerical tasks.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Attend staff meetings and recommended training programs, including in-service training as required.
- Operate and care for instructional equipment used in the classroom.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Follow directions given by the head teacher or immediate supervisor.
Student Management
- Assist with supervision of students outside the classroom, such as during field trips, play periods, lunchroom activities, and dismissal.
- Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
School/Community Relations
- Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information, documents, communications, and incidents with discretion.
- Cooperate and share professionally with other staff members.
- Promote high academic achievement for all children and a greater focus on teaching and learning.
- Encourage flexibility to stimulate local initiatives while maintaining responsibility for student performance.
- Promote improved linkages among schools, parents, and communities.
Requirements
- High School degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Speak, read, and write English fluently.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
- Experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities.
- Be in the process of becoming professionally prepared to supervise young children.

Work Environment
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual school conditions. The environment may be noisy during high student traffic.
