Elementary Guidance Counselor

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in education, with specialization in guidance
• Iowa endorsement for elementary guidance
• Three years of classroom teaching preferred

Job Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the testing program for the elementary school.
• Aid staff in identifying students who have significant problems impeding school success.
• Work with the principal in setting dates and times for MTSS meetings.
• Provide information and data for and attend IEP meetings as needed.
• Communicate with staff about special needs students may have and how to meet those needs.
• Conduct small and large group counseling sessions.
• Provide orientation for new students.
• Make a continuous effort to counsel and aid students in matters of: educational programs, personal problems, social problems, peer status, parental problems and other areas in which student welfare is concerned.
• Work directly with the principal in changing inappropriate student behavior.
• Handle discipline situations when the principal is out of the building.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
