Requirements
- Education Level: Bachelor's degree South Dakota teacher license with an endorsement in gifted education.
- Experience Desired: Successful Student Teaching
- Physical Requirements: Hand-eye, mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive motions.
- Other Requirements: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in computer word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Certification: This position requires a valid South Dakota teaching certification with the required endorsements. Please note, endorsement requirements may vary based on specific course assignments.
- Training: Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training - Certified educators must complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Works effectively with teachers and building administrators in promoting understanding of characteristics and needs of gifted students and helps integrate the gifted program into the overall plan and purpose of the school district.
- Coordinates and participates in identification, assessment, Education Plan development, and delivery of service for eligible students, and serves as a resource to classroom teachers.
- Maintains student records regarding the referral, evaluation and placement process in compliance with district requirements.
- Follows School Board policies and regulations, teacher handbooks and the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.
- Participates in building conferences and communicates with parents, according to elementary gifted program guidelines, keeping families informed about their child's progress.
- Utilizes teaching techniques consistent with the research on effective teaching and "best practices" for gifted learners.
- Provides periodic summary reports and other requested data regarding the delivery of service to elementary gifted students.
- Establishes a learning climate and classroom management system that promotes orderly behavior of students.
- Utilizes community resources as an extension of the classroom for students.
- Adheres to the direction of the building principal and the Elementary Coordinator and responds to administrative supervision.
- Performs other duties as assigned by principal and/or coordinator.
Pay Information
Starting at $53,981 to $60,793 per year, based on experience*
*Pay listed is based on a 1.0 FTE. Pay will be prorated based on the final FTE of the contract
Schedule & FTE
- Monday through Friday; flexible scheduling based on needs of schools being served.
- 0.75 FTE, 30 hours per week, 9 months
