About the role

Niji-Iro Japanese Immersion School seeks an experienced elementary classroom teacher to join the Livonia Public Schools community.

Responsibilities

• Create an engaging, welcoming, and safe classroom environment which stimulates learning, growth, and development.
• Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide the primary foundation for future education.
• Establish positive and respectful relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Exhibit a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments.
• Create lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Understand literacy development for elementary students and articulate and utilize research-based instructional strategies and methods appropriate for various grade levels.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare report cards and other necessary documentation to report student growth and achievement.
• Integrate the school improvement goals into the classroom.
• Maintain student classroom records using current district technology and expectations.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss curriculum, assessments, and student progress.
• Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students address social, emotional, and academic issues.
• Create an effective and welcoming environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, instructional materials, bulletin boards, and websites.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
• Utilize age and content-appropriate aids; maintain required inventory records.
• Provide supervision and oversight to students throughout assigned work day.
• Administer standardized and local assessments in accordance with district assessment program.
• Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
• Participate in school improvement/AdvancEd accreditation initiatives at the district level and school level, committees, and collaborative learning teams.
• Execute other duties as assigned by building administrator.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
• Valid elementary Michigan Teaching Certificate.
• A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students.
• Demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships.
• Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

• The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association.
• This position will remain open minimally through July 8, 2026 for consideration of employment for the 26-27 school year.
