About the role

The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Uses various instructional techniques and media, considering the physical constraints of the location and the capabilities of students.
  • Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy and performance expectations through instruction and actions.
  • Affirms the learning achievements of students regularly and provides progress reports as required. Communicates with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records and diagnoses learning challenges, seeking assistance from district specialists if necessary.
  • Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom that aligns with administrative policies and develops classroom rules enforced fairly and justly.
  • Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and writes evaluations as required.
  • Maintains a continuous program of professional growth that meets district requirements and personal professional expectations.
  • Participates in the teacher evaluation process, contributing to mutually agreed-upon outcomes.
  • Attends building and district meetings to facilitate communication and mutual decision-making among staff.
  • Attends traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
  • Contributes to decisions regarding district and building budgets, facilities, curricula, and personal well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Qualifications

  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
  • Appropriate content/program area educator license (Elementary) and grade level (1-6) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license; or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
