St. Helen Catholic School in Pearland, Texas, seeks a responsible, energetic, and nurturing individual with teaching experience for a full-time Grade 1 self-contained classroom position. The role operates under the general supervision of the School Principal.
About the Role
The teacher will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing Archdiocesan-approved curriculum, documenting progress, addressing individual educational needs, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. The position requires both face-to-face and remote online teaching capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging learning experiences.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, modifying instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Instructs students in responsible digital citizenship and other subjects as specified by applicable laws and school procedures.
- Acquires professional knowledge and stays current with developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, or research.
- Maintains accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with staff to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with testing programs.
- Follows and upholds all COVID protocols set forth by the school’s plan.
- Performs additional duties as assigned, including non-instructional duties such as lunch and carpool supervision.
- Maintains classroom order and behavioral management to ensure safety.
- Assists with morning, lunch, or afternoon duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Texas State Teaching Certification.
- Pass a criminal background check clearance.
- Training and verification in Safe Haven child abuse awareness.
- Commitment to the philosophy of Catholic school and value-oriented education.
- Current Catechist Certificate or working toward one.
Qualifications
- State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related discipline.
- Master’s Degree in a related area preferred.
- Prior teaching experience will be considered.
Skills
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
- Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
- Strong communication skills with students and parents, both in person and through electronic/written means.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Physical Demands

Pay
Pay rate depends on education and experience.
Schedule
Full-time contract basis, school days from August to May with some additional training days.
