Essential Job Functions
- Cleans and repairs building facilities, including light bulbs, plumbing fixtures, electrical switches, doors, furniture, fan filters, and other minor mechanical repairs.
- Reports major maintenance needs to the facilities department and confirms work completion.
- Checks roof drains and inspects roofs for damage or needed repairs.
- Changes HVAC filters and investigates and controls insects and other pests in buildings.
- Maintains furniture levels and coordinates replacements with Maintenance Services.
- Verifies security system operation and schedules maintenance for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Orders and maintains required materials and tools.
- Responds to maintenance calls and reports to the principal.
- Serves as a point of contact for building issues and conducts daily audits.
- Supervises custodians and day porters, including performance reviews, time and attendance, disciplinary actions, and scheduling.
- Participates in snow and ice removal and provides backup to custodian day porters.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility
- Maintains accurate inventory of parts, tools, and materials.
- Makes purchases and reports expenditures to adhere to county spending guidelines.
- Provides ad hoc inventory reports as required.
Equipment Operation
- Utilizes all equipment used on the job by trades/crafts.
- Uses the computer and associated software programs.
Work Environment
- Office, shop, and warehouse environments.
- Exposure to dust, airborne particles, and toxic/caustic chemicals.
- Loud to moderate noise levels.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge in general building trades, including basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills.
- Working knowledge of cleaning techniques and standards.
- Ability to operate commercial cleaning equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of trade equipment and tools.
- Demonstrated ability in general repair and maintenance of buildings.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently with equipment and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and investigate and correct maintenance and repair problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact with co-workers.
- Training and directing the work of others.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the assigned building.
- Pesticide Application Certification through the Va. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within 3 months of hire.
- Valid VA Driver’s License.

- Annual driving checks and acceptable records.
- Tuberculosis Screening/Test.
Compensation and Benefits
- $43,620.10 - $74,138.25 per year.
- Benefits offered by Chesterfield County Public Schools.
