Summary
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, the Student Services Coordinator #1 assists with students in the special education classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. This person also works on certain non-instructional and concept/skill reinforcement tasks and provides additional adult/student relationships.
Education/Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
- 60 credit hours in an accredited university or college or an Associates Degree preferred
- Experience working with early elementary students with special needs preferred
- Bilingual skills helpful
Duties/Skills/Qualifications
- Assist the teacher in the instruction to students of academic, social, and motor skills
- Absorb and implement rules of student conduct and specific program expectations
- Assist students with problem solving when adjustment and academic needs arise
- Assist with providing feedback and monitoring the classroom when students are working
- Assist the teacher with classroom activities outside of classroom instruction
- Show excellent attendance and punctuality
- Show high level of communication and organizational skills
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and administrator
- Relate and work effectively with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
- Show knowledge and awareness of own cultural identity and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others
- Establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District
- Recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage
