Locations: Sy Andrews, Forrest, Patrick, and Phenix schools (Grade 5). Full-time, 10-month position starting immediately. Salary: $45,000; Associate (Unlicensed) Teachers may be considered based on division needs.

About the role

This position is for an upper elementary 4th or 5th grade teacher, open to unlicensed candidates who are actively working toward a Virginia teaching license. The role is for the remainder of the school year, with potential for extension based on division needs, performance, and licensure progress. Candidates must establish an individual licensure plan with a timeline and work toward meeting requirements while employed. Once licensure requirements are met, a contract promotion to the teacher salary scale will be offered. Reimbursement is available for licensure requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements an instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences for each student.
  • Collaborates within a professional learning community to nurture and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to accelerated student achievement.
  • Assesses student achievement and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting.
  • Manages the behavior of learners in the instructional setting to provide an environment conducive to the learning process and assists in managing student behavior in other parts of the school and school grounds.
  • Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff, both school and non-school based, to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Participates in professional development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
  • Provides continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of their child's progress.
  • Communicates with students, parents, professionals, and support personnel in and outside the school to share information and encourage involvement.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required for external candidates).
  • Successful experience working with students in a classroom setting is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and human relations skills.
  • Basic digital literacy skills and adaptability with use of classroom technology.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of children.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, and parents.
