As an Elementary/Middle School Elective Teacher, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment that fosters student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, build rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Present subject matter to maximize learning opportunities for students.
• Review student records to understand each student's abilities and needs.
• Maximize educational achievement for every student.
• Incorporate a variety of student learning modalities into each lesson.
• Utilize diagnostic assessments of student learning frequently.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records.
• Assess student strengths and weaknesses, provide tailored activities, and generate progress reports.
• Refer students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
• Assign lessons, correct student work, and review oral presentations.
• Coordinate class field trips.
• Prepare students for state-required achievement assessments.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and displays student-generated work as appropriate.
• Implement relevant policies governing student conduct.
• Develop reasonable rules for classroom and playground behavior in line with CSUSA policy and maintain fair, consistent order.
• Develop lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and goals.
• Plan individual and group learning activities to meet instructional objectives and student needs.
• Prepare for assigned classes and demonstrate evidence of preparation upon request.
• Participate in curriculum planning with other staff members during designated meetings.
• Incorporate diagnostic information from students' Individual Education Plans (IEP) into planning.
• Take necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities for effective instruction.
• Establish cooperative relations and communicate effectively with parents/guardians when appropriate.
• Communicate clearly, consistently, and positively with parents via all appropriate mediums.
• Cooperate with administration and other staff members.
• Maintain student confidentiality.
• Attend parent communication activities.
• Participate in extracurricular activities as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
• Possession of valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Work Environment

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual school conditions. The environment may be noisy during high student traffic.
