Electrophysiology Tech III

Site: FMCOH Wiregrass Ranch Hospital, Wesley Chapel, Florida – a five-story, 380,000-square-foot multi-specialty hospital designed to serve one of Florida’s fastest-growing communities with advanced, outcomes-focused care. The facility opens with 102 beds (expandable to 300), nine advanced operating rooms (including a hybrid OR with real-time imaging), and comprehensive services in cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgery, and more.

About the role

Performs diagnostic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention during cardiovascular procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care, delivering advanced care while recognizing patient conditions, age-specific needs, and ensuring successful completion of procedures and protocols.
• Serves as a preceptor and/or charge nurse based on departmental needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of Bloom stimulator and physician electrophysiology protocols.
• Evaluates and independently resolves equipment problems; notifies Biomed and/or equipment company as appropriate and reports issues to the supervisor.
• Ensures the patient’s understanding of the procedure performed; provides patient and family education while ensuring patient needs, safety, and comfort are met in the Electrophysiology Lab.
• Acquires patient’s clinical history and ensures accurate documentation; verifies reports and records for completeness and accuracy.
• Archives and amends demographic information to appropriate storage media.
• Positions patient, equipment, and associated devices; manipulates technical factors to achieve high-quality images and signals for interpretation.
• Assesses processed images for technical quality and patient identification, ensuring all relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
• Applies principles of radiation safety and protection to minimize exposure to the patient, self, and others.
• Provides physiological and hemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Supports the physician as a scrub assistant; demonstrates knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Documents patient care related to procedural areas in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, meeting all required and regulatory standards (including patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety).
• Demonstrates competency in evaluating and obtaining hemostasis of a vessel post-procedure.
• Maintains customer service skills in communication with staff, visitors, patients, and co-workers.
• Performs duties to ensure patient satisfaction.
• Ensures case turnover time meets established department standards by maintaining workflow and prioritizing patient care.
• Serves as a superuser in 3 clinical systems or technologies.
• Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal, state, and local standards.
• Complies with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patients’ rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Maintains productivity during downtime.
• Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making; solicits supervisory input when required.
• Utilizes all department computer systems effectively and accurately.
• Assists in developing and implementing essential policies and procedures.
• Maintains a working knowledge of procedural changes and equipment updates.
• Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment; keeps work areas well-stocked and organized.
• Works evenings, weekends, holidays, and call as scheduled; may be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.
• Demonstrates efficient use of supplies.
• Assists with collection of QA data.
• Manages reportable occurrences and files appropriate forms with Risk Management.
• Implements established procedures for BSI (Body Substance Isolation).
• Serves on hospital or department committees.
• Collaborates with the education department and leadership team to transition and support new team members and/or students.
• Participates in ensuring OSHA, JCAHO, and FDA regulations are adhered to within the department.
• Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education to maintain licensure.

Requirements

One of the following criteria must be met:

• CVT—RICS or RCES: High School Diploma or GED.
• RRT or CRT: Associate degree from an accredited respiratory therapy education program.
• R.T.(R): Completion of an accredited radiography program.
• Paramedic—NREMT-P: Completion of an accredited paramedic education program.

Additional requirements:

• Three years of hospital experience in the Electrophysiology Lab.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (PALS may be required depending on unit-specific needs).
• One of the following:
  • Valid Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification; or
  • Cardiovascular Intervention (CI) certification; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or science-related field; or
  • Four years of experience (in addition to the three years listed above).
• Must possess and maintain one of the following:
  • Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT)—Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)—Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed for the state of employment.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)—Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed for the state of employment.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (R.T.(R))—Valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification. Licensed for the state of employment.
  • Paramedic—National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification.
