Electrophysiology Tech I

Under the direction of the Electrophysiologist and the Nurse Manager, the Electrophysiology Technician I performs essential duties to assist the medical staff with the performance of diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within the Electrophysiology Lab setting. This role functions in a high-activity, fast-paced environment to ensure optimal patient outcomes, participates in late team schedules, and maintains accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transporting patients to nursing units.
• Attends to patient needs during electrophysiology procedures by providing psychological and physical comfort measures while maintaining safety.
• Performs ECG placement and troubleshooting on both EP med and Lifepack.
• Manages pressure transducers, electrical cautery, and fluoroscopy equipment (Philips, Siemens, GE).
• Operates ICE (Zonare and Sequoia), Spectranetics, and Velocity systems.
• Performs chest tube drainage system setup.
• Conducts cardioversion, defibrillation, and pacing.
• Manages manifold setup and operation.
• Sets up Stereotaxis, discusses safety protocols, and troubleshoots issues.
• Operates RF generators (ATAKR, Stockard, IBI-1500O, Maestro 3000) and adapts to new technology as it evolves.
• Circulates during electrophysiology procedures and participates in late team schedules.
• Prepares patients and equipment for procedures by maintaining asepsis, instrument counts, specimen care, dressing application, and preparing the site of entry.
• Drapes patients, arranges sterilized instruments and catheters, and calibrates and sets up pressure transducers and tubing.
• Prepares electrophysiology lab procedure rooms by ensuring adequate stock is available.
• Scrubs during procedures, provides appropriate instrumentation to cardiologists, and assists physicians in maneuvering catheters.
• Prepares instruments and supplies for sterilization, cleans and decontaminates instruments and equipment, and assists in preparing the EP lab for the next procedure.
• Accurately obtains and documents hemodynamic, electrical, angiographic, case progression, and supply data.
• Participates in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Safely and accurately operates complex equipment, including electrical amplifiers, fluoroscopy equipment, hemodynamic monitoring, generators, and recording systems.
• Performs the professional, clinical, and technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Requirements

• High School Graduate.
• Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology OR Associate’s Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or Vascular Technology OR graduate or currently enrolled in a secondary program (associate’s, bachelor’s, or program that meets RCIS eligibility requirements).

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in a healthcare-related field, plus previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or Electrophysiology Lab.
• Graduate of a non-accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology with previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or Electrophysiology Lab.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare-related field, plus previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or Electrophysiology Lab.
• 1 or more years of previous experience in roles such as ICU, Cardiac, Cardiovascular technologist, first responders/EMT, radiologic technologists, ultrasound technologist, respiratory therapy, physiology, or other relevant medical experience.

Certifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) – American Heart Association (AHA).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) within 120 days of hire.
