Job summary and qualifications
The Electrophysiology (EP) Specialist assumes responsibility for the routine care and maintenance of radiological equipment, in addition, assumes responsibility for quality patient care, maintenance of required cath lab and EP competencies and assistance in all aspects of invasive, or non-invasive cardiac procedures.
Responsibilities
- Explain all procedures to patients to help alleviate anxiety
- Work within a team environment with individuals having similar abilities and responsibilities
- Handle emergency situations during high-risk procedures
- Interact with physicians during routine procedures, during emergencies and to assist with interpretation of and recording of data collected
- Give primary and critical patient care and administers necessary medications per doctor's orders, per physician's extender, while patient is in the lab
- Recognize EKG rhythms, including intra-cardiac rhythms
- Complete assigned supply ordering, evaluate stocking needs on a daily basis, check expiration dates on medications and on re-usable and disposable items
- Assist in transferring patients to and from the Cath Lab for procedures and report to receiving nursing unit all specifics regarding procedure performed
Required certifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Registered Radiographer (ARRT), or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
