Electrophysiologist Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)

Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) for an Electrophysiologist specializing in Syncope and Autonomic Disorders. This is a full-time outpatient role with no nights, weekends, holidays, or call required.

About the role

The Specialty Advanced Practice Provider exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with syncope in accordance with Virginia licensure regulations and written Scope of Practice and Protocol. The role utilizes an integrated team-based approach, evidence-based standards, and participates in quality initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes.

This position includes a structured 12-week orientation with physician and APP mentorship, formal competency assessment, and the possibility of rotating to other Inova sites. The APP Lead role may also be involved, optimizing daily function and care delivery provided by Advanced Practice Providers within the service line.

Responsibilities

• Practice in accordance with safe and effective standards of care, ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards.
• Communicate appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers.
• Develop differential diagnoses and plans of care based on data collection; revise based on physiologic and psychosocial findings.
• Interpret and synthesize laboratory, imaging, and other pertinent data.
• Review patient plans of care with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families.
• Evaluate and document patients' responses to care, assessing impact on health status, functional status, nutrition, sleep, family, and social relationships; establish health promotion strategies.
• Assume clinical management for the acute care patient population in collaboration with physicians.
• Provide accurate record keeping, including complete histories, physicals, progress notes, discharge summaries, and data information sheets.
• Serve as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students.
• Assist physicians in care management during emergencies.
• Participate in and support departmental, hospital, and system-wide quality performance improvement initiatives.
• Support cost savings strategies and provide care in an efficient, cost-conscious manner.
• Assist in developing and revising standards for patient populations, integrating evidence-based research into clinical practice.
• Participate in clinical research, data collection, and projects for continual specialty development.
• Provide clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge.
• Proactively assist peers with work tasks.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Certification: Basic Life Support upon start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start, as applicable.
• Licensure: Licensed as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence), a "Practice Agreement" signed by supervising physician(s), a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol," and a Drug Enforcement Administration License (if prescribing controlled substances).
• Experience: No prior experience required; new graduates considered.
• Education:
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, or certificate from an education program accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, or the National League for Nursing.
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
