Electronics Technician I

About the role

The Electronics Technician I performs basic diagnosis, repairs, and modifications to electronics systems, and is responsible for performing the required periodic maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and testing of equipment as required.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include systems maintenance, general requirements, navigational aids systems support, communications systems support, and meteorology systems support.

• Reports the operational readiness, capabilities, limitations, and reliability of installed systems
• Maintains and verifies work center safety requirements and equipment
• Submits work requests for facility repairs in accordance with individual site processes
• Collects and maintains accurate records, including equipment maintenance logs and inventory
• Conducts reviews of available test equipment and calibrates and repairs sensors and test equipment
• Provides general assistance for preparation of point papers, analyses, briefs, and other management-related tasks
• Documents and archives all maintenance actions
• Adheres to applicable configuration control policy and procedures, and security policy and procedures
• Schedules and conducts necessary training, including Pre-Deployment Ground School and on-site training
• Maintains an accurate tool inventory and current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Provides estimated airlift needs and adheres to frequency management policies and procedures
• Ensures inventory of spare parts/components is accurate and adequate, and conducts authorized modification, installation, and removal of equipment
• Prepares and updates drawings and other technical documentation, and prepares routine and special reports
• Follows all applicable safety requirements and supports flight checks/certifications of airfield systems
• Ensures all assigned equipment operates/functions in accordance with applicable technical specifications/operational directives
• Verifies that all technicians who deploy to Antarctica possess a valid driver’s license
• Provides maintenance support availability up to 24 hours per day and 7 days per week at McMurdo Station and surrounding airfields
• Maintains a written Master Station Log (MSL) of maintenance activity and equipment status, changes, or significant events
• Measures and reports operational availability (Ao) of systems, and maintains and follows procedures for reporting system outages
• Develops and provides reports, such as incident, accident, and other post-action emergent reports
• Maintains systems in accordance with applicable DoD or non-DoD information security requirements

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with zero to two (0-2) years experience
• Formal training from a Technical School or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications preferred
• Valid USA passport required, and must be able to obtain a T1 Clearance through the government customer
• Must pass internal background checks and have a valid driver’s license

Skills

• Ability to perform job duties in extreme, cold, dark work environments
• Knowledge and experience performing hardware maintenance, including replacing and/or repairing hard drives, motherboards, video cards, RAM, CPU, monitors, power supplies, network cards, printers, and other peripherals
• Ability to follow directions and work independently or with a team
• Ability to be reliable in attendance/punctuality, and to practice and promote required safety standards
• Skilled proficiency conducting audits and utilizing quality management systems, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations, and to negotiate to find mutually acceptable solutions
• Organization, problem-solving, resolution, and critical thinking skills, and customer service and relationship-building skills
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and to reach with hands and arms, occasionally above head
• Regularly required to twist at the waist, climb and descend stairs while carrying objects, and to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Ability to speak and hear, and frequently required to sit and climb or balance
• Regularly lifts and/or moves up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to fifty pounds
• Works near moving mechanical parts, and regularly exposed to general office and general office machinery noise
• May be exposed to warehouse, truck, or forklift noise, and requires a physical qualification for deployment to Antarctica
