Electronics Technician - FO, GS 7/9
About the role
This position is open to U.S. citizens who are eligible for a Top Secret/SCI clearance. The position is located in various field offices across the country and requires a valid driver's license. The position is full-time and permanent.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, and operational testing of electronic communication systems.
- Conduct routine equipment tests and perform basic corrections or replace defective parts.
- Handle, store, and inventory a variety of electronic equipment and components.
- Inspect equipment for adherence to standards and tolerances.
- Perform physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic communication systems.
- Install and maintain FM radio systems, data networks, or electronic physical security systems.
- Inspect and test equipment for reliability and accuracy to prevent breakdowns.
- Use test equipment and advanced techniques to perform installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Conduct preventive maintenance by regularly inspecting and testing equipment.
- Perform corrective maintenance to restore systems that are out of operating condition.
- Review technical manuals and remain current with technology.
- Attend government-sponsored training classes.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications and Evaluations
The FBI uses the Candidate Rating Procedures to evaluate your application. Specialized Experience (SE)
- GS-7: One year of SE equivalent to the GS-5 grade level, assisting with the physical installation and maintenance of electronic communication systems, conducting routine equipment tests, and performing basic corrections or replacing defective parts.
- GS-9: One year of SE equivalent to the GS-7 grade level, performing physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic communication systems, installing and maintaining FM radio systems, data networks, or electronic physical security systems, inspecting equipment for adherence to standards and tolerances, and performing installations and preventive and corrective (or emergency) maintenance and service work.
Education
- GS-7: Superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate level education.
- GS-9: Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

- Veterans: DD 214; Disabled Veterans: DD 214, SF-15, and VA letter dated 1991 or later.
- A Memorandum for Record (MFR): Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on an SF-50, i.e., back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position. If no documentation is furnished no credit will be given for time worked in that position.
