Electronics Technician 2

SABG is hiring an Electronics Technician II to support the FBI FPSS in Huntsville, AL. This position functions as an Electronics Technician I for projects within HQ and HQ Off-Sites under the Space Management Unit – HQ team. Top Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Apply telecommunications and electronics principles to perform duties in areas such as electronic surveillance, tempest and intrusion detection, electronic communications systems (wireless networks, LANs, WANs), electronic security (physical, cryptographic, tempest, intrusion detection, access control), forensic audio and video analysis, telephone facilities, and electrical systems.
• Prepare schematics for repairing electronic equipment.
• Apply technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks following detailed instructions, including replacing components, wiring circuits, repairing simple electronic equipment, and taking test readings using instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.
• Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.
• Install and maintain complex communications/network and intrusion detection systems, including wide/narrow-band wireless communication equipment, audio and video equipment, surveillance devices, and other security-related equipment.
• Perform technical work in areas such as electronic surveillance, data networks, video analysis, wireless, networking, electronic security, and microwave to handle routine and well-defined special assignments.
• Integrate technology with security requirements and emerging threats.
• Implement connectivity of equipment during crisis situations where immediate security operations are necessary.
• Design basic approaches to resolve technical problems with conventional equipment.
• Function in compliance with national standards and policies relating to the technical design of complex electronic equipment, communications systems, and techniques, operating within regulatory guidelines.
• Assist in the delivery, installation, and deployment of unique and innovative systems.
• Interpret and comply with technical specifications for system development, including scope, missions, threats, interface definitions, performance characteristics, maintainability, reliability, environmental conditions, and physical design.
• Assist in establishing secure communication systems at a command center or SCIF.
• Repair equipment and perform corrective maintenance in assigned programmatic areas.
• Inspect and test equipment/systems to ensure technical integrity and propose corrective action if necessary.
• Review technical manuals to remain current with technology.
• Work extensively outdoors in the installation and maintenance of technical equipment; use of ladders, safety equipment, and ability to navigate rooftops and tight spaces may be required.
• Provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians.

Requirements

• Accredited engineering technology two (2) or four (4) year degree, or military veteran with training in a technical occupation and four (4) years of technical service experience consistent with the knowledge required for the ET position.
• Completion of a basic electronics fundamentals course or equivalent and a tradecraft/vendor-certified course for one of the following systems: radio communications, secure network communications, or electronic physical security systems.
• Experience as a technician or in a position showing progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory and equipment.
• Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of various types and models of electronic equipment and systems.
• Enrollment in an accredited engineering technology degree program with completion of a basic electronics fundamentals course or equivalent, or an accredited engineering technology certificate with at least six (6) semester hours in electronics courses related to: basic electronics fundamentals, AC/DC circuits, solid-state devices, power/transformers, RF/antennae theory, or digital electronics.
• Experience using schematic diagrams, test equipment, and applying electronic formulas for testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment.

Work Environment

Job duties are performed in a manufacturing/office environment utilizing standard office equipment such as a computer, photocopier, and telephone. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
