About the role

Collins Aerospace is seeking an Electronics Lab Technician to join our team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role involves configuring, modeling, constructing, testing, troubleshooting, and modifying engineering prototypes and first article electronic equipment. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in electronics and mechanics, with experience in debugging and testing digital, analog, and power supply circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and resolves calibration and troubleshooting problems.
  • Performs precision testing and performs or supervises precision assembly of engineering equipment.
  • Prepares reports, charts, and graphs with recommendations for improvement.
  • Aids engineers in the design, development, and evaluation of new products and recommends product improvements or manufacturing modifications.
  • Determines test methods, revises test equipment modifications, and evaluates product/equipment performance utilizing test results.
  • Participates as an engineering team member to determine requirement definitions and select solution methods.
  • Utilizes various programming languages for product design/implementation.
  • Fabricates, assembles, calibrates, and tests electronic/mechanical equipment and components.
  • Maintains test/design activity documentation.
  • Selects optimum test procedures based on changing work priorities and differing work environments.
  • Assumes responsibility for relatively independent action within the design/production process.
  • Interfaces with persons of substantially higher rank within or outside the Company on significant matters often requiring coordination of activity across organizational lines concerning engineering design, sales, production, and marketing.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with applicable test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and power sources.
  • Debugging and testing digital, analog, and power supply circuits.
  • Hands-on skills such as breadboarding, soldering, and circuit board repair and fabrication.
  • Ability to read and layout schematic drawings and translate them into printed wiring boards.
  • Product Test Requirement development and Qualification test support.
  • Writing Engineering modifications, Engineering Change Orders, and documenting testing and build procedures.
  • Technical Associate degree (ASET/ASEET) or equivalent.
