Electronic Technician - (Voice Systems)

As a Voice Systems Electronic Technician, you will install, test, repair, and maintain unified power systems, converters, battery plants, amplifiers, mixers, cable racks, radio antennas, and grounding systems. You will work on analog, digital, and video circuits, as well as logic systems, primarily at Kennedy Space Center on systems including OIS-M, OIS-Q2, PAWS, and Radios. This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical functions supporting engineering activities.
• Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems using documentation, schematics, diagrams, or verbal instructions.
• Conducts testing in a development mode and determines methods to correct malfunctions or design problems; recommends modifications to engineering designs.
• Assists in the design, construction, test, and checkout of test equipment.
• Fabricates custom support equipment using materials such as steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, wood, and plywood for voice and data systems installation.
• Installs, removes, controls, and replaces serial digital closed-circuit surveillance television and webcam systems in support of spacecraft, payload, and security operations.
• Sets up and operates video equipment and portable sound reinforcement systems.
• Performs software upgrades on sustaining systems.
• Installs and maintains handheld, fixed, and mobile radio frequency (RF) radios.

Requirements

• Associate of Science or Technical Trade School degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience may substitute for education: 1.5 years of related experience equals 1 year of formal education.
• Four (4) years of related experience or successful completion of a State- or Military-approved bona fide work-related apprenticeship program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Qualifications

• Understanding of electrical theory and ability to exercise independent judgment in performing circuit diagnostics and analysis.
• Ability to read and comprehensively understand electronic schematics.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
• Must pass an initial and random drug test.
• Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

• Works indoors and outdoors in conditions including cold/hot temperatures, high humidity, and windy environments.
• May require special precautions, protective gear, or clothing due to risks such as moving machinery, chemicals, electrical hazards, working from heights, or confined spaces.
• Frequently lifts 35–50 pounds and works on uneven surfaces, standing for long periods.
• Requires repetitive movement, bending, stooping, twisting, and working in awkward positions.
• Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels; lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations.
• Ability to recognize differences in wire and cable colors.
• Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices.
• May require working 2nd or 3rd shift.
