Electronic Technician Senior or Electronic Technician
About the role
The Electronic Technician Senior and Electronic Technician positions at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) involve performing highly technical work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of traffic-related electronic equipment. These roles require a strong foundation in electronics technology and the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain traffic control devices ensuring efficient and effective operation.
- Repair, maintain, and modify signal cabinets according to specifications.
- Perform preliminary checkout procedures on signal cabinets and traffic-related electronic equipment.
- Test bench equipment to ensure proper operation during maintenance and repair procedures.
- Respond to repair calls or replace equipment in the field.
- Maintain and repair telecommunication systems and equipment to ensure communication is maintained and equipment is functional.
Requirements
- Registered Unlicensed Power Limited Technician license or obtain within the probationary period.
- Completion of a two-year vocational/technical program in Electronics Technology or equivalent within the last ten years.
- Experience applying standard practices and procedures used in the repair, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Experience operating electronic tools, testing, and measuring devices.
- Ability to identify and classify electronic repair supplies and maintain stock records.
- Ability to perform layout and design of electronic systems.
- Ability to lead the work of other technicians.
- Possession of valid class D driver's license.
Qualifications
- Completion of a two-year vocational/technical program in Electronics Technology or equivalent within the last ten years.
- Experience applying standard practices and procedures used in the repair, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Experience operating electronic tools, testing, and measuring devices.
- Ability to identify and classify electronic repair supplies and maintain stock records.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to perform layout and design of electronic systems.
- Ability to lead the work of other technicians.
- Possession of valid class D driver's license.
Skills
- Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Project, Visio, PowerPoint).
- Advanced, specialized repair, maintenance, and construction of electronic equipment.
- Design and recommend new equipment and parts as needed.
- Ability to perform layout and design of electronic systems.
- Leadership skills in managing technician teams.

Pay
$25.46 - $35.79 per hour; $53,160 - $74,729 annually.
Schedule
Day shift, Monday - Friday.
