Electronic Technician - Operational Technology Cybersecurity Automated Control Specialist

About the role

As an Electronic Technician specializing in Operational Technology Cybersecurity and Automated Control Systems, you will develop and implement robust cybersecurity solutions tailored to operational technology environments, including industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, and other OT infrastructures for Aviation Maintenance. Your work will safeguard critical systems against cyber threats, mitigate risks, and ensure regulatory compliance to protect business operations from catastrophic failures.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce information security policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with the Information Security (IS) team.
• Perform regular vulnerability scans and compliance audits to identify and mitigate potential security risks and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Monitor systems for security incidents, lead investigations, and coordinate response efforts to contain and resolve threats, minimizing impact on operations.
• Support cybersecurity incident response by performing containment, eradication, and restoration actions on OT systems in collaboration with Information Security.
• Design and implement intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and endpoint protection solutions to secure critical OT infrastructure.
• Stay up to date with emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory changes, recommending proactive measures to strengthen system security.
• Configure, monitor, and optimize Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms to collect, analyze, and correlate security event data for real-time threat detection and incident response.
• Design, implement, and maintain firewall policies and rules to secure network perimeters, ensuring robust protection against unauthorized access and cyber threats while optimizing system performance.
• Configure, manage, and secure Active Directory environments by designing and implementing Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security settings such as password policies, account lockout rules, and access controls.
• Harden Linux systems by configuring secure user authentication, file permissions, and implementing tools like SELinux or AppArmor, and disabling unnecessary services to reduce attack surfaces.
• Oversee the timely deployment of security patches and software updates for Linux systems, Windows systems, applications, and dependencies, and automate patch management solutions to mitigate vulnerabilities.
• Secure, update, and harden VMware infrastructure by configuring secure access controls, implementing least privilege principles, and applying VMware security best practices.
• Develop an OT inventory model for cybersecurity purposes, inventory OT assets, identify gaps in OT network architecture, and assign security level targets to network zones for control systems.
• Develop cybersecurity countermeasures for systems and applications, define baseline system security requirements in partnership with Information Security, oversee implementation of system controls, and develop system upgrade specifications.
• Design, administer, maintain, install, and repair complex electronic systems, including server installation and maintenance, and network infrastructure troubleshooting and repair.
• Execute cybersecurity countermeasures, including server patching, firmware updates, and firewall configuration.
• Secure the following systems (but not limited to):
  • Video Management System
  • Access Control Systems
  • Flight Information Display Systems
  • Baggage Conveyor Systems
  • Airline Common Use Systems
  • Parking Garage Management Systems

Requirements

• Five (5) years of experience in electronic and computer systems with hardware and software design, administration, and troubleshooting of complex systems.
• Associate Degree or certification from a recognized electronic technical school or related program (desired).
• Ten (10) years of experience in complex computer-managed electronic systems (desired).
• Experience in Operational Technology Systems and/or certifications such as Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), GIAC Critical Infrastructure Protection (GCIP), or GIAC Response and Industrial Defense (GRID) (desired).
• Skills to design, administer, and troubleshoot complex networked electronic and computer systems under stringent time constraints.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving to manage critical electronic system failure responses and recovery efforts.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with airport personnel and the public.
• Strong team orientation with the ability to work independently.

Work Environment

• Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
• Exposure to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights, dusty or dirty environments, and confined spaces.
• Required to walk long distances, climb ladders, and lift items up to 30 pounds.
• May be required to work during emergencies.

Schedule

• Required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Work schedule includes day, swing, and graveyard shifts.
• Participation in trouble call rotations is required.
• Eligible for overtime pay.

Security & Residency Requirements

• Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check and a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
• Must obtain a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
• Required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems, and/or vehicles.
• Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.
• Must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of employment and maintain it during employment.
• If teleworking, work must be performed in Washington State.

Pay

• Probationary rate: $64.67 per hour.
• After probation: $71.86 per hour.
