Electronic Technician III
Essential Functions
- Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair telescopes, instruments, and observatory electronic systems
- Support development and upgrade projects to enhance system performance
- Perform routine system checks to ensure readiness for night operations
- Conduct facility safety inspections and identify/correct potential hazards
- Electronics & Systems: Assemble, test, and troubleshoot electronic components (wiring, cables, PCBs, connectors)
- Diagnose and repair circuit boards, connectors, and electronic devices
- Utilize and maintain electronic test equipment; ensure calibration/certification is current
- Inventory & Procurement: Identify, order, and manage spare parts and electronic components
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure availability of critical supplies
- Purchase and maintain lab materials, tools, and equipment
Collaboration & Support
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams
- Assist with training and knowledge sharing across staff
- Maintain clear documentation and records of work performed
- Support general operations and assist team members as needed
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with organizational standards
- Report unsafe conditions and support safe work practices
- Maintain accountability for organizational property within assigned work areas
- Ensure compliance with applicable government and grant requirements
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in Electronics Technology or related field
- 5–7 years of hands-on experience in electronic systems or related technical field
- Strong understanding of electronic principles, circuits, and troubleshooting techniques
- Experience assembling and repairing circuit boards and connectors
- Basic mechanical skills and proficiency with hand tools
- Familiarity with Windows-based systems and applications
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to operate 4WD vehicles
Technical Knowledge
- Cryogenic systems and maintenance
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Preferred:
- Knowledge of cryogenic systems and maintenance
- Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems

Salary Range: $32.85 – $39.27 per hour. The final salary will depend on skills, qualifications and experience.
