About the role

The Electronic & PCB Design Engineer contributes to the design, development, and deployment of RFID applications for retail customers. Working within a hardware team, the successful candidate will design solutions, meet deadlines, and complete challenging engineering assignments with moderate supervision. This role involves PCB design and layout, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and creating comprehensive documentation for fabrication, assembly, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Research solutions to complex technical problems under performance, size, power, and cost constraints; recommend viable and cost-effective approaches and select key components.
  • Review and analyze digital and analog hardware designs, including part selection, schematic entry, layout, timing, signal integrity, derating, power consumption, and test.
  • Design printed circuit boards for new products such as RFID readers, IoT devices, and accessories.
  • Validate and troubleshoot prototypes and production builds; generate test reports documenting compliance to project specifications.
  • Guide development of hardware test procedures for manufacturing.
  • Co-develop hardware with Firmware Engineers and FPGA Design Engineers; assist in board bring-up.
  • Support sustaining activities for end-of-life (EOL) or part shortages on existing products.
  • Support test activities for existing and new products.
  • Design analog/digital circuits, including microprocessors, FPGAs, DSPs, and embedded systems.
  • Apply RF layout design methods, placement, and routing.
  • Design using through-hole and surface-mount technology, adhering to IPC standards for footprint creation and layout.
  • Design high-speed, multilayer PCBs.
  • Generate Gerber data and all necessary fabrication files.
  • Create PCB footprints from manufacturers’ datasheets and maintain the component library.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to optimize material and manufacturing costs.
  • Work with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to optimize packaging, thermal, and electrical performance.
  • Interpret and implement electrical standards such as IEC, CSA, and UL in designs.
  • Perform DRC and post-processing (Gerber settings, FAB & assembly files generation).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-density analog, digital, UHF, and mixed-signal PCB layout.
  • Working experience with DSP, microcontrollers, microprocessors, reference designs, and development kits.
  • Working experience with memory devices and technologies (SRAM, SDRAM, DDR, Flash, eMMC).
  • Working experience with peripheral interfaces (RS232/485, Ethernet, USB, I2C, SPI, LVDS).
  • Hands-on experience in PCBA board bring-up and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools; Omnify Empower PLM is a plus.
  • IPC CID certification.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, especially ECAD/MCAD interface and file formats (STEP, DXF, IGES).
  • Experience with optimal layout for EMI minimization.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of industry standards for PCB design, fabrication, assembly, and testing, as well as DFM/DFT practices.
  • Familiarity with UL, EMC, RoHS, REACH, and WEEE compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Siemens PADS Professional Layout and PADS Logic CAD tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments with limited supervision.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
