About the role

The Electrical Engineer will join Advanced Energy’s (AE) Customer Experience Center (CEC) to develop solutions for EMC, safety, and system integration for power supplies. This position will envision and validate innovative solutions for a wide variety of applications in the industrial and medical space to accelerate our customers’ adoption of AE solutions. This role will also be responsible for a diverse range of engineering tasks including designing, testing, and analyzing systems and components as part of a focused team. Lastly, this position will be responsible for summarizing results and delivering proposals to management.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies and solutions per customer and regulatory specifications (e.g., analog and digital circuits, EMI filters, power circuits, etc.), including circuit/magnetic design, micro-code development, schematics, board layout, and prototype testing.
  • Interface with internal departments and customers to develop solutions in EMI, safety, and system integration.
  • Develop design and simulation tools and other predictive methods to reduce changes on subsequent iterations of each design.
  • Participate as an active part of the design and application team to meet sales, product management, and field application engineering challenges.
  • Conduct testing, development, and debugging of power supply units.
  • Build prototypes/modified power sources per customer requirements for preproduction testing.
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Travel as needed to support Field Application Engineering team activities (15% domestic travel).

Work environment

  • Location: Wilmington, MA
  • Travel: Must be able to travel occasionally domestically and internationally as required
  • Environment: Works in a fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be obtained.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and peers.
  • Ability to learn and use professional concepts appropriate to engineering, including analytical methods, computer-aided analysis and design tools, diagnostic instruments and test equipment, lab skills appropriate to design, and selecting appropriate components and materials for designs.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word-processing software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; consistent demonstrated ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision.

Experience

  • Essential: 0–3 years of experience in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Desirable: Experience with Mathcad, Cadence, SPICE-based simulation, and/or ViewLogic

Education

  • Bachelor’s (BSEE) degree from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master’s (MSEE) degree strongly preferred

Pay

The range of starting pay for this role is $75,000 to $100,000 per year.
