Electronic Engineer

About the Role
In MACOM's MMIC Business Unit, you will design and analyze circuits, power supplies, support PCBs, and test systems for RF and Millimeter Wave multi-chip modules. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop new products and production methods for aerospace & defense, cellular, and other wireless applications.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, layout, test, and release printed circuit boards embedded in RF/MMW integrated microwave assemblies.
- Design circuits for DC filtering, voltage conversion, and power conditioning for MMICs.
- Develop analog and embedded digital circuits for control of MMICs, including hardware interfaces such as SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, UDP, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, CAN Bus, UART, USB, and Ethernet.
- Create schematic circuit simulations and EM simulations using tools like LTspice, MATLAB, TINA, QUCS, Multisim, Python, ICAP/4 SPICE, Scilab, Excel, and PSpice.
- Generate layouts and assembly drawings.
- Lead all design activities from product kickoff through engineering evaluations, including prototype builds and product characterization.
- Design evaluation boards and characterization fixtures, and perform or direct measurements.
- Produce design reports, progress reports, test reports, datasheets, and bill of materials.
- Organize design reviews and maintain up-to-date project plans and schedules in cooperation with the Project Manager.
- Work with Product Engineering to transfer products to production.
- Stay current with the latest semiconductor, assembly, packaging, and tool technologies.
- Maintain passion for advancements in electrical and electronics engineering.
- Provide customer support, including sampling and application notes.
- Advocate for PCB-level analog and digital design as a core competency within the company.
- Generate engineering documentation, change orders (CO's), and PLM system entries for design work.
- Update design rules as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; M.S. preferred.
- Passion for electronics and PCB design.
- Fluency with SPICE simulation tools.
- Experience with programming and/or hardware description languages (e.g., C/C++, C#, Ruby, R, Bash, Rust, HTBasic, VHDL, Verilog, FORTRAN, Cobol, BASIC, B).
- Comfort working in general-purpose operating systems such as Linux, Windows, Android, SteamOS, FreeBSD, DOS, or AmigaOS.
- Experience designing hardware and software/firmware with embedded digital design toolchains for microcontrollers and FPGAs (e.g., Atmel, Xilinx).
- Comfort working with RTOS such as ThreadX, FreeRTOS, VxWorks, RTEMS, LynxOS, QNX, or Atlas Supervisor.
- Familiarity with RF/MMW IMA design techniques.
- Familiarity with RF simulation tools such as MWO or ADS (ADS preferred).
- Familiarity with EM simulation tools (e.g., HFSS or WIPL-D).
- Familiarity with PCB layout tools such as Altium, PADS, or KiCAD.
- Familiarity with RF measurement techniques for small-signal and large-signal characterization of amplifiers, including bench calibration, S-parameters, 1-tone and 2-tone power sweep measurements, and pulsed measurements.
- Experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, logic analyzers, LCR meters, thermal cameras, curve tracers, and time-domain reflectometers.
- Exceptional time management skills and ability to work for multiple managers with competing priorities and conflicting deadlines.
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build long-lasting partnerships.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $138,000. Actual salary offered will depend on factors including work location, relevant experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities. This position is eligible for restricted stock unit (RSU) awards and cash bonuses at MACOM’s discretion, based on individual and company performance.
