About the role
Direct and lead the Mechanical Engineering team within the R&D department to design, develop, and continuously improve Temposonics’ high-precision magnetostrictive linear position sensors and level transmitters.
Responsibilities
- Establish and execute technical strategy, engineering processes, and resource allocation to deliver high-quality, high-performance sensing solutions aligned with commercial, quality, cost, and time-to-market targets.
- Design Oversight & Engineering Excellence
- Oversee and guide electro-mechanical system architecture, component design, electronic packaging in sensor systems, and hardware integration.
- Ensure rigorous analysis, simulation, prototyping, and debugging of designs to meet high-reliability performance in demanding industrial, mobile hydraulic, and process environments.
- Drive technical feasibility assessments for new technologies and product concepts.
- Create, control, and execute project timelines, resource plans, and cost targets for standard sensor series, custom modifications, and rapid prototyping.
- Ensure cross-functional coordination to deliver projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Ensure full compliance with internal R&D design processes, NPI phase-gate requirements, and quality standards.
- Facilitate robust peer reviews, design reviews, and risk assessments (e.g., FMEAs).
- Oversee document control, including engineering change orders (ECOs), bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and ERP system updates.
- Cross-Functional & Production Support
- Coordinate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless transfer of designs to production (DFM/DFT), tool design, and testing solutions.
- Support Sustaining Engineering activities to resolve production, quality, or component obsolescence issues.
- Provide high-level technical expertise and support to Technical Marketing, Sales, and customers, including technical presentations and custom application reviews.
- Aid in resolving complex customer field issues and service/repair investigations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of overall engineering design experience in an R&D/product development environment.
- At least 2 years of direct engineering management or team leadership experience, with proven success in coaching, mentoring, and developing technical teams.
- Strong experience in electro-mechanical design, electronic packaging, or hardware development.
- Proven track record of managing NPI (New Product Introduction) projects from concept through production release.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks or similar CAD.
- Strong familiarity with engineering change control (ECO), document management, and ERP systems.
- Proficient in the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions effectively using available and sometimes incomplete data.
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills.
- Deep commitment to customer orientation and cross-functional team participation.
- Working knowledge of industrial sensor output interfaces, including analog voltage and 4-20 mA current loop outputs and at least one digital or fieldbus protocol.
- Experience taking designs from concept through manufacturing and test, including performing mechanical assembly for quick prototypes, and design for manufacturability and design for test practice.
- Disciplined use of formal change control and released documentation in a production environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment to solve problems and make recommendations, and to defend a technical position with data.
- Systematic problem solving, and the ability to organize and perform multiple concurrent tasks.
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions and technical documentation.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to approximately 15%.
